Year 3 Events
In English we are focusing on Classic Poetry. We have been reading and highlighting examples of poetry written by the poet Mary Howitt. We are concentrating on The Spider and the Fly as our key text. We will be reading and analysing the poem looking at the rhyming words, rhyming structure and exploring the archaic language within the poem. Can you believe that the poem was written in 1829?! We have watched an animation of the poem and have compared with the original poem. We will be completing lots of drama such as, freeze framing and hot seating main characters from the poem.
GUITAR WORKSHOP- We have some budding musicians in Year 3
OUR WORSHIP SONG LINKED WITH OUR CHRISTIAN VALUE FRIENDSHIP
CHILD LED WORSHIP
Each week two of the children within Year 3 plan and lead worship on Thursday. The worship is linked with our Christian Value which is 'Friendship' this half term. The children plan questions, share a Bible story and produce a prayer at the end. We also include the hymn or song that we are learning this half term. The link for our Worship song 'Jesus is my Best Friend' is below. The children love leading worship and take it very seriously.
OUR VISIT FROM THE LANCASHIRE FIRE SERVICE
On Wednesday 2nd March we had a visit from the Lancashire Fire Service who taught us about the importance of smoke alarms in our homes. We learned how to drop and roll if we are ever unfortunate enough to be on fire.
We also learned how to complete a fire safety plan in case our house is ever on fire. We completed a drama which showed how to leave the house safely in the event of a fire.
SUPER SCIENCE-Plants
Our Science focus for this half term is plants. We will be investigating the functions of the different parts of a plant and learning about the process of photosynthesis. We will also be exploring how the stem and roots of a plant are crucial in keeping the plant alive. We will also be learning about pollination and seed dispersal.
We used magnifying glasses to explore and observe the different parts of flowering plants. We compared the physical features of a daffodil and a rose. We then took the parts of the plant apart to observe what will happen to each part of the plant over time. We placed the stems in water and will observe what happens to them over time. We have already observed that the flowering part of the plant and the leaves have died and started to decay without the stem. the children have decided that they would like to test the stems in different liquids, change the size of the stem and to try putting stems in the dark to observe what happens to them. We love Science in Year 3.
YEAR 3 AND 4 EASTER SERVICE
Year 3 and 4 had the exciting opportunity to lead the Easter Service in Church. It was absolutely wonderful to be able to worship together and share the service together in Church again. the children sang beautifully and really brought the Easter story to life. It was wonderful to see so many parents in Church supporting the children and school.
