EYFS

Early Years Foundation Stage

EYFS Intent Statement

At St John with St Augustine Primary School we believe that our Early Years Foundation Stage is crucial to developing firm foundations to be built upon throughout our school journey and beyond. It is our intent that the children who enter our EYFS develop physically, verbally, emotionally, creatively, intellectually and spiritually whilst embedding a positive attitude to school and learning in order for each child to achieve their full potential. Every child is recognised as a unique individual and we celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values and prepare our children for the next stage of their learning journey in Key Stage 1. We believe that our first experiences of school should be happy and positive, enabling us to develop a lifelong love of learning. We will work in partnership with parents and carers to encourage independent, happy learners who thrive in school and reach their full potential from their various starting points. We understand and follow children’s interests and provide opportunities throughout our EYFS curriculum to support learning, consolidate and deepen knowledge and ensure children meet their next steps creating indoor and outdoor environments which support and extend learning.

The children in our Early Years Foundation Stage (you might also know this as Reception Class) are 4 to 5 years of age.

If you would like to find out more about the EYFS Curriculum please ring the school on 01254 392717 and ask to speak to the Class teacher: Mrs Jesson or Miss Martin (EYFS Leader)
