This half term, our topic is 'Inventions and Inventions'.  We will begin to focus on non-fiction text types:

NON-FICTION TEXT TYPES

Recount: a recount is written in the past tense about events that have happened. Examples of texts that are recounts include: diaries, an account of a school event or school trip, an historical account of events, letters and postcards, newspaper articles and retelling well-known stories.

Instructions: instructions are written for someone who needs to know how to do something. They could explain how to cook a meal, how to build a piece of furniture, how to play a game or how to get to somewhere you need to go.

Persuasion: A persuasive text is a form of non-fiction writing that aims to convince the reader of a certain point of view. Adverts and newspaper columns are good examples of persuasive text.

Discussion: A discussion text is a text that presents both sides of an issue or argument. The title of the text often outlines the issue to be discussed in the form of a question. For example: Should cars be banned from town centres? Sometimes discussion texts are known as balanced arguments.

Explanation: an explanation text is a piece of non-fiction writing explaining an action process or event in a detailed but simple way. It features numbered points, time connectives, pictures, diagrams, labels and captions to help the receiver understand the process of what’s being delivered.

Non-chronological report: A non-chronological report is a text which isn't written in time order. They are normally nonfiction texts which give information on a particular subject or event, without referring to the order in which things happen. An example of a non-chronological report would be a fact file about a certain topic, place or thing.

We will be completing some writing to inform the reader about wonderful inventions!

Our class novel is 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'.  We will then move on to writing narrative text types based on this book.
