Welcome

St John with St Augustine is a happy Church of England primary school for children between the ages of four and eleven years. We are a single form entry primary school with an admission number of 30 pupils each year. We are a popular school and we are proud of the excellent reputation we have in our local area, particularly with the personalised learning approach we hold dear.  Our school is housed close to the centre of Accrington town centre, and we have a before and after school club as well as access to a forest school.

In 2020/21, a significant building project was completed which completely modernised the Key Stage 1 part of the school, but also allowed us to refurbish all other areas to ensure all our children enjoy classrooms which are conducive to good learning.

Our school has a unique pastoral ethos which remains at the heart of our success with visitors often commenting on the calm, friendly and nurturing atmosphere.  We have established strong Christian values  which permeates through school and is embedded in our Mission Statement and Christian Vision. We are a caring school where every child and every family truly do matter to us.  We welcome innovation but also place great value in the traditional elements of school life – good manners, perseverance and hardworking attitudes.  Important qualities in creating a calm and supportive environment.

There is much to be proud of within our school, but there is also an appetite to continue to grow and improve.   We have a staff team who endeavour to create in our children a true love of learning.  Our last Ofsted Report was good and our Outstanding provision was also recognized in our SIAMS inspection.

We pride ourselves in offering a curriculum which is creative, ambitious and engaging; a curriculum which follows the requirements of the National Curriculum in all areas and meets the individual needs of all pupils. The curriculum is sequenced and is progressive, thereby building on our children's prior knowledge. We recognise that there are times when every child may need extra support to ensure they reach their true potential, including extra support or the use of our sensory room.  We want our children to care for themselves and for others, to have enquiring minds and discover the talents and abilities that are special to them.

Our school Mission Statement is- “With God's help, together, we aspire, achieve and believe " This is rooted deep within our thinking from every decision we make.

Message from the Headteacher

As Headteacher of St John with St Augustine CE Primary School, I would like to welcome you to our wonderful school. We wish our children to have special and happy memories of their time at St John with St Augustine's and value highly the positive relationships we have built between children, parents, staff, governors and our neighbouring communities.

Children get one chance with their education and at St John with St Augustine we want this to be the best. There is a driving determination to ensure that pupils and adults in the school reach their full potential. Dance, school visits and musical opportunities are a core element of our curriculum. We also offer a breakfast club every morning, have close links with the toddler groups, parish, and offer after school activities. Learning is celebrated and openly admired. We work and learn together with you, and go that extra mile to make families’ lives better and brighter.

We have a lot to be proud about at St John with St Augustine. We have well-resourced, spacious rooms and attractive learning environments. The extensive school playgrounds are currently being developed to support learning, providing an attractive and safe environment for all children to enjoy. The school is a happy, stimulating and caring place and we expect very high standards of behaviour and good manners throughout the school.
